Sometimes the bad news just keeps coming…

Spouse got
word that she didn’t get the awesome job that she was one of the final
group of candidates for. The company, understandably, went with someone
who had existing industry contacts. We had been very hopeful based on
how things had been going.

So now here we are with less than $10
in the bank, and having to reapply for SNAP because the new computer
system the state just switched didn’t register that we had uploaded the
renewal forms. All of this has me at the end of my rope.

I have
been applying for every job that I can find that I even remotely think I
could do, even if I don’t meet the listed requirements, but I haven’t
been getting any calls back lately. Same for Spouse. What sort of job we
could do is limited some by my MS and her CFS (more details about that here.)
Jobs that require being on my feet 100% of the time, or would lead to
me getting overheated, could quite literally break me because of my MS
symptoms.

So here we are, with utility bills past due, expecting
cut off notices to come in the mail any time, and auto insurance set to
auto-draft in less than two weeks from an account that doesn’t have the
money in it to cover it.

Growing up my father was very much of the
“bootstraps” and “real men don’t ask for help” mindset. Being raised
with that it is very hard for me to ask for help sometimes, but right
now I have to make sure that my daughters are okay, that they have heat,
and power, and food. So here I am,
humbling myself before the internet, asking,
if you can, please help us.

Update: Things are still not going well for us. The job that I was interviewing for back around Christmas did work out; I thought the interviews went really well but I finally heard back from them last week that they decided to go with someone else.

I’ve been applying to ever job that I am even remotely qualified for, no matter how tangentially, and I have had a couple of phone interviews that I felt went well. Also I’ve been in touch with a guy at an employment agency who was very impressed with my resume (thank you again Jadelyn for the help with that, you rock) and if confident he will eventually be able to find something for me. But so far he hasn’t found anything, and I haven’t heard anything back on any of the phone interviews yet.

I was able to make a little bit during the holidays doing some freelance design work on some things like holiday cards for a few of my former clients from the print shop. It wasn’t much, but it kept the lights and heat on through the holidays.

Now that money is gone and bills are coming due again, with power, heat (which is 3x what it had been, because winter), water, and internet all coming past due in the next couple of weeks, and nowhere near enough in the bank to even come close to covering them.
