Concept: a Victorian novel with chapter titles like the episodes of an anime series.

(Bonus concept: an anime series with episode titles like the chapters of a Victorian novel.)

Wouldn’t Victorian novel chapters be “In Which Our Hapless Protagonist Runs Amok of Yet More Tyrannous Bickering, and Becomes Involved With a Cabbage”?

Because if I’m not recalling a sleep deprivation trip, that sounds exactly like anime titles.

I think you mean “Runs Afoul”, and yeah, they’re very similar in their broad strokes, but not in their particulars – it’s swapping the specific conventions around while retaining the same basic framework that’s the funny part.

(For those unacquainted with the chapter titling conventions of Victorian novels, a favourite example – just scroll down to the table of contents.)

I love this.

An essential feature of Victorian literature is that all of the chapter titles should read like the narrator is passive-aggressively vagueposting about the chapter’s principle characters.
