I don’t remember what it was called, but there was this manga where the protagonist just totted his demon sister around in a reed basket so I cribbed the idea for Samurai Eri and Aizawa. When engaging danger this frees up both his hands + line of sight. AND it serves as a multi-purpose storage container. Sometimes when Eri and cat get tired of walking they nap in there.
