Im happy that he’s the only one ive seen so far that didnt get ruined in the redraw, he just got a fancier jacket and apparantly a chiropractor. Good for him!!
I hope he is a good dude that i can hug and that he doesnt die in the plot or something. He has such kind eyes!! He’s like the kind of guy you would see as a college professor teaching ye olde literature and he’s very quiet and softspoken and wears an argyle sweater and hands out werthers originals to all the students and he’s totally forgiving if you hand in your homework late
Also i like that he has the Grandpa Classique hair! I’m always like ‘dat charon’ whenever i see a guy like this, but really charon is just a particularly goofy example in a long list of pointy croissant hair mens. Its a proud tradition of viddygame minion gremps! I like how this guy has a more realistic less stylized version. And i like how they made it seamlessly transition into his mustache/sideburns. I think the original’s combination mustache sideburns is better than just the sideburns in the remake. And also they pulled back his widow’s peak a bit for some reason? Did they want him to be less grandpaish? Is that also why he doesnt have a slouch anymore? Tho srsly i’d love to imagine that his boss gave him a raise so he was able to get better healthcare and get some relief from his back ache and also have the money left over for the fancy outfit he truly deserves. But yknow it could always be fancier!! And have more medals!! And every medal says #1 Gramps!
God i have no idea who he even is or what his personality is but i already want to hug him so much!!! Its definately the same Instant Gramp Fave feeling as Charon and Vexen. (Tho vexen did turn out to be younger than i expected so he’s just like a 40 Something Dad With Sort Of A Gramp Aesthetic Fave)

I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen someone call Heiss kind looking xDDD Not that it’s bad!! But Heiss here is a ruthless spymaster with a very ends justify the means personalitymost of the time. His one soft spot is for main character Stocke, who he dotes on like a proud parent and tries stuffign Werther’s into his pocket whenever he sees him. (like, i personally adore him, but i can’t deny the man has issues)
His redesign is one of the few I like as well! And his new voice acting is, for the most part, absolutely amazing.
I’m trying to dance around spoilers for hte most part here, so excuse my vagueness, but Im assuming a big chunk of his glow up is because the original game was trying to hide his importance to the backstory, while the remake was like HE’S IMPORTANT LETS MAKE HIM PRETTY!!
(like, uh, be careful googling for him, grandpa is attached to some plot revelations and I don’t know if you want it all laid out yet!)

also it’s 2018 I’m snatching everyone’s hair gel for this challenge, *looks at Axel* but yea! Lex was actually pretty fun to figure out because while his is quite cunning for his size, i also feel like if he left the org today he’s be happy working on shitty cars in a Wisconsin garage somewhere, ALSO HE BUILT LIKE A POWERLIFTER which is a nice break from the starved models that is literally everyone else in the organization, not that im complaining ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I dont think he’s the character you meant, but he looks pretty neat nonetheless! Its just a bit distracting how he’s not actually drawn like an overweight person, it really looks like someone used the stretch and squash tool on him. His head doesnt even seem to align with his chest or shoulders?? Man this is a big ol mess, its like they drew the armour first and got so carried away on all the detail bits that they became TEN TIMES THE SIZE OF THE REST. And then just plonk a damn head on. Poor guy! Its interesting tho cos i havent seen this level of ‘technically competant and polished yet weirdly bad looking’ since rob liefeld… Have we found his anime twin…

I have absolutely no idea why he was the top search result then XD he actually looks kinda older in the original art tho, i would have guessed 35 or 40? Maybe he’s just that relateable millenial feel of being like the old mentor guy despite just getting out of highschool XD
And MAN i see what you mean! That art style is simpler but miles more distinct with the thick line shading and less cliche anime…lighting aesthetic? I dunno. Yknow what i mean?? The thing where anime games nowadays seem to make everything all faded and washed out and have as little colour contrast as possible. Also the dumbness of everything constantly having super thin lines of equal line weight regardless of sitution. It just looked like some guy who does that kind of art style badly traced the original art and borked up the anatomy. Like it was stylized in the original but you could at least tell where his shoulders were! And lollll i’m laughing at how the redraw added this weird shadow on the tabard that makes it look like his groin is way higher up and closer together than you’d expect, holy shit this dude has the ultimate thunder thighs! Srsly it seems like the original was trying to actually go for a ‘oversized armour hanging off him realistically’ look and then the remake made it look skintight to a horrifying homunculus man.

FUCK I JUST NOTICED HIS ARMS ARE DIFFERENT LENGTHS
I was gonna try and justify it by theorizing the different coloured arm is a prosthetic? But then..who the fuck orders a prosthetic arm and tells the doctor “yeah i want something that doesnt fit at all”. And if its bulky armour like that then wouldnt it be so heavy it would hurt the joint? And how would he get in and out of his armour if his arm is shaped bigger than the sleeve? Does he have to disconnect it every time he wants to change clothes? Does the armour zip up at the back instead? The only time i’ve seen a stylized overlarge prosthetic before was for Silver in Treasure Planet, and they actually made it make sense within the universe. Its so bulky because its this grungey piratical steampunk aesthetic, like its been cobbled together on a sailor’s budget compared to the more sleek space tech youd see in richer areas. And his clothes also made sense for it, his pirate coat lacks a left sleeve and has a wider hole to fit that arm through. And he’s always wearing wide-sleeved tank tops when he’s off the job. Its a little detail that makes me appreciate that movie’s dedication to character-building! So yeah this detail here seems to say that this dude is maybe lower class or has some other reason why he’d have a bulky ineffective prosthestic? Which totally clashes with the fancy royal knight appearance of everything else.
Aaaaand his arms arent even different lengths on the original art so maybe its not meant to be a prosthetic after all???
It is a prosthetic!! His home country is stil working on perfecting Robot Technology and he ended up getting the prototype for a Robot Arm, so it’s powerful but kind of unwieldy to deal with. The entire home country aesthetic is very steampunk, and between that and the highly stylized art, the prosthetic felt like an organic design choice in the original!

Oh, well i was thinking of doibg games i already own or free to play games for the moment, and then waiting til christmas to buy whatever game you suggested and do the lp for it. Itd be my present to both me and you! 😀

I’ve actually heard of radiant historia and ive always wanted to play it for years but i kept never getting it? Like, whenever i got money id always buy a cheaper game that i knew more about. People were saying i should stay compketely unspoiled to have the full experience of RH but that means i literally know nothing about it except its (probably) rpg genre or adventure genre? And i think the art style looks cool. And maybe time travel or historical war game due to the title? Or maybe its just a title cos i mean kingdom hearts sounds like historical war game. Oh! And one of my friends said they were sad about a character getting a bad redesign in the remake! So i know its on at least 2 consoles but i dont know which ones or whether the remake is better or not? I hope at least one of the versions is one i can play!
So yeah i’ll go do research on RH!! And if you have any specific KH ideas then get back to me! I was considering maybe doing an lp of COM cos, yknow, found out vexen existed and instantly loved him. Plus i can play the gba version on my computer! And i own the whole HD collection of kingdom hearts on ps4 whicj i havent even started yet cos i was trying to figure out how to hook up a normal microphone to the console but then i ended up eventually finding a universal headset that has adaptor attatchments for all consoles and also pc. But by then i forgot what i even wanted to lets play in the first place lol! Just the other day i saw an advert for the hdcollection and was like ‘damn i wish i had that’ and somehow didnt remember i bought it in like march??? I think The Discovery Of Vexen just blitzed every other piece of kingdom hearts content out of my brain, lol. SRSLY HOW DID I MISS OUT ON LOVING HIM FOR MY ENTIRE CHILDHOOD!! Sorry where was i ANYWAY i could totally play COM on an emulator and then play the remake and maybe compare them? And yell LOOK IT MA BOY in pixels and also 3D! And compare it to the manga which is the only version ive seen so far and VEXEN IS A REALLY CUTE SAD DAD IN IT AND THEY HAVE A LITTLE CHORES WHEEL IN THE SCIENCE LAB AND THEY WERE FAMBLY hhhh my emotions.my preemptive emotions for a game i havent played. Gimme a bit to look for free ot play games, but – yeah, I’d love to see anything with kingdom hearts stuff! Maybe KH1 and CoM!! Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming out soon and has Vexen coming back after 5 games, so you can be ready to know what’s up with him then!
(I’d suggest watching/playing kh1 first, personally, because it was the second ever video game i played and it’s very close to my heart xD And it gives context for what happens in CoM! CoM’s gameplay has a huge chunk of Math Puzzles in it, too, so you may want to try it a little before committing to playing it twice – I know a lot of my friends got frustrated with the amount of math in it…and it’s the only kh game that’s made me want to throw my controller in frustration 8;D )
RH is a jrpg with time travel elements! You have to travel between branches on a timeline to try and fix it, and that’s all I’ll say so I don’t get spoilery! The main character Stocke is all “I’m a tough spy man and I don’t care about anyone because they keep on dying 8(” [He meets someone for two minutes] “I will die to protect this person” and is a good, good egg in general. the 2012 original had a lot of really cool art, including a butch princess, and the remake ….decided to make everyone attractive and appropriately femenine/masculine and wouldn’t let the ladies be cool or independant in the rewritten script 8/ I’d reccomend the old version for that reason, but its really expensive these days,s o I should try and figure out how…emulators work….
(the token grandpa is Heiss, who is stocke’s spy boss and is like ‘people suck, however stocke is my dear special boy who i love a lot’ and stock is like ‘can you please chill for 5 minutes’ and its very awkward for everyone)
