Some ideas for bad things that are white/light:

  • lightning, very hot fire
  • snow storms, ice, frost on crops
  • some types of fungus/mold
  • corpses, ghosts, bones, a diseased person
  • clothing, skin tone, hair, etc. of a bad person
  • fur, teeth, eyes of an attacking animal/monster
  • bleached out deserts, dead trees, lifeless places
  • poison

Some ideas for good things that are black/dark:

  • rich earth/soil
  • chocolate, truffles, wine, cooked meat
  • friendly animals/pets/creatures
  • a character’s favorite vehicle, technology, coat, etc.
  • a pleasant night
  • hair, skin tone, clothing, etc. of a good person
  • undisturbed water of a lake
  • the case/container of something important
  • valued wood, furniture, art
  • velvet

Think to burn, to infect, to bleach vs. to enrich, to protect, to be of substance.

the politics of light and dark are everywhere in our vocabulary…psa to writers: subvert this, reveal whiteness and lightness as sometimes artificial and violent, and darkness as healing, the unknown as natural

“The truth finds more comfort in the dark”

“The light can blind as easily as the dark conceals. The dark can protect as easily as the light guides. Neither are pure good nor evil, pure chaos nor order. The light and dark just are.”

Not gonna lie, this was the part I was most excited to do. I have wanted to draw Aqua duking it out against Terranort for the longest time now because this fight was so very emotional for me when I first played it. So while the style is a bit different compared to rest of the video due to being drawn so far apart from it, I’m still pretty happy with how these all turned out. From Dusk Til Dawn is probably gonna have even more fighting so I hope I can be more consistent in the future.

Final Work (HERE)

miss–anon:

Last Night Under the Stars

This is basically the start of a long redraw project I started back in 2013. I’m deeply sorry for the long time it took me to get this done and I hope you find this work worth the wait. The music used for this work samples the version of Ven’s theme as played by Kiwii216 in her Xion piano arrangement and also uses a piano version of Dismiss made by a user named Domz who’s work is no longer on youtube as far as I can tell. You can tell I’m not good at editing audio in this, so Kiwii’s piano parts are kinda distorted. My favorite part to draw was the finale section from 1:47 to 2:42. In any case, while it’s overall not quite as consistent in style as I’d like, I’m still proud of it and I hope you all enjoy it.

How 2 New York Women Erased $1.5 Million In Medical Debt For Hundreds Of Strangers

currentsinbiology:

Some New Yorkers received an early Christmas present this year – a little, yellow envelope that came through the mail, inside, a letter telling the person that their medical debt has been forgiven. This act of kindness comes courtesy of Carolyn Kenyon and Judith Jones, who both live in Ithaca, N.Y. The two friends met through the Finger Lakes chapter of the Campaign for New York Health.

They’re both big supporters of a single-payer health system. And they were looking for a project to work on together to highlight the problems with the health care system. They decided on medical debt.

use comic sans to write

i hate this so much but this knowledge is too powerful to keep from you all.

last night @phaltu discovered that setting your font to comic sans in google docs improves writing speed and creativity by an insane amount. “no” i said and “die” but then i tried it and god. i wish it wasn’t this way. i wish it wasn’t true. i wish i could protect you all from this but it’s real.

something about this font is so disarming. something about this font lets you look past the shape of the words and into their soul. i’ve never written so much as i did last night, on my phone, at 2am, in comic sans.

if you have writer’s block. if you lack inspiration. if you need this. don’t be afraid to use it. sometimes the things we find most horrifying are also the things we need the most. trust me. let comic sans into your life.
