What i know so far is that this is some sort of Hidden Gem Of The DS that Many People Say Is Very Good And Such. It has a really neat art style and music and apparantly great story too!
I’ve been warned that something something the 3DS version is Perhaps Bad, and they changed A Lot including making the art style more boring and redesigning the cool butch princess to be more femme. So I think i’m gonna just play the first version first and then leave this can of worms unwormed until maybe afterwards as a bonus episode?
It has something to do with time travel! Time travel gameplay!! I do not know how they manage to make it gameplay but i am really excited cos the idea of the plot and the gameplay being intertwined is Big Neato! And it probably means lots of alternate endings!!
The protagonist is a sassy grumpman who’s comically socially oblivious but also has a Big Fuckin Heart That Is Constantly Ruining Him. “Bwah i’m a soulless mercenary who ain’t need no friends! But since i happen to have stumbled into some i WILL CHERISH THEM” I just really love the art style of this version cos wow that’s a subtle “almost smile almost frown weary man who wants to be soft but has lost hope long ago BUT his softness keeps dragging him into the feels again no matter how hard he tries to harden himself to feel less pain”. That’s the face of a man who’s super loving his friends but believes they could be torn away from him at any second and would probably blame himself for being stupid enough to get attatched, because he must have dragged them into danger. THAT IS A SELF SACRIFICING MAN WHO TRIES TO GRUMP BUT HE JUST AINT GOOD AT IT. When i can get all that from just a picture of a dude ive never seen before, you know your art is good! The remake version just looks like an actual grumpy guy and also doesnt have the cool hard line shading effects.
Anyway look at this gramp
Also look at this other gramp
Cyborg gramp
Kindest smile
And i saw one spoiler about the endgame that thankfully makes absolutely no sense out of context.
That is the extent of my knowledge
Also i am told iwillcryalot.
THE HYPE IS REAL
I adore the aesthetic of this game, from the black shading and ambiguous expressions of the sprites to the earth toned color scheme of both the characters and the menus, to the music that i do not have the vocabulary to properly yell about, and I am so excited!!
Heiss from Radiant Historia, demonstrating his right to not only bear arms but also to robot arms.
Searching “radiant historia grandpa” gave me a picture of this incredibly wide man
I dont think he’s the character you meant, but he looks pretty neat nonetheless! Its just a bit distracting how he’s not actually drawn like an overweight person, it really looks like someone used the stretch and squash tool on him. His head doesnt even seem to align with his chest or shoulders?? Man this is a big ol mess, its like they drew the armour first and got so carried away on all the detail bits that they became TEN TIMES THE SIZE OF THE REST. And then just plonk a damn head on. Poor guy! Its interesting tho cos i havent seen this level of ‘technically competant and polished yet weirdly bad looking’ since rob liefeld… Have we found his anime twin…
THAT’S ROSCH AND HE’S 27 xD And this is why people are complaining about the remake art!!
It has come to my attention that Perfect Chronology tragically changed the localization of one of the funniest sidequests in the game.
As such, I share this, the original version of the Technique Scrolls sidequest, for the enlightenment of newcomers who were cruelly denied a voice-acted version of the original English script because whoever was in charge of PC’s localization hates joy.
